Tasting Notes
"Our first red wine release from the highly anticipated 2007 vintage, the wine's aromatic complexity, fruit forward purity and refreshing structure makes it a strong follow-up to its inaugural 2006 kin. Dark purple in color the wine captures the best of the varietal and vintage characteristics. A blackberry nose, bordering on cassis, is a springboard for sarsaparilla and peppery spices. The wine enters the palate with a base layer of bittersweet blackstrap molasses and broadens with rich, dense, blue and black fruit flavors housed in a hint of vanilla cream. The wine's mouth coating acidity and soft tannins prevent the wine from becoming an unwieldy bramble of forest floor fruit. The hops-like finish that lingers for up to thirty seconds darkens towards espresso notes as the wine spends time in the glass. A staff favorite since the first bottle was uncorked; the 2007 Syrah is drinking stylishly in its youth but is poised to unfold as a more refined, complex wine in the next 3-5 years."
