The Solari Family
"Father came to America when he was 9. His family had an itty-bitty, teeny-tiny farm there. He graduated from Cal, where he met my mother, and then traveled all over the U.S. selling wine — he was a very big enthusiast for California wines."
~ Kate Solari Baker, Proprietor, St. Helena Star, November 13, 2008
In 1948, Larry and Polly Solari purchased the historic Larkmead winery and surrounding vineyards. Larry then became president of United Vintners, the owner of Italian Swiss Colony, Beaulieu Vineyards and Inglenook, leaving Polly to supervise daily operations Larkmead.
As the Solari family continued to make wine and sell grapes from the estate, Larkmead once again became known as one of the great vineyard sites in Napa Valley.
