2005 Larkmead Vineyards Solari
100% Estate grown fruit at Larkmead Vineyards
98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot
Aged in 66% new French oak barrels for 20 months
"Deep ruby/purple color. Powerfully intense aromas of blackberry, sweet mint and sage rounded out by dusty cocoa and the vineyard's signature profile of wet rocks/gravel.
Rich black fruits dominate the palate with cassis and blackberry leading to a textured, voluptuous mid palate and then rich, broad enveloping tannins. The wine finishes long with a burst of dark cherry sweetness.
Showing plenty of cool season character, the 2005 Solari should gain complexity in bottle for 6 to 8 years post-vintage and drink well up to 2017. I suggest drinking this vintage prior to the more rugged 2004 and 2006 bottlings."

"The prodigious 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Solari Reserve is a gorgeous wine. This 2005 has a dense purple color and a glorious nose of graphite, creme de cassis, tar, and hints of spicy, subtle toast. The wine is dense, medium to full-bodied, with impressive purity, texture, and length (45-50 second for sure). This is a beauty of elegance and substance that should be at its best between 2012 and 2030."
