Recently, we had a harvest party for all of our hard-working team members, and we ended up tasting a few vintages blind. Guess what vintage came out on top? Forget the bad press and hype; this wine has evolved into something very special, something that can be enjoyed now. We made only 651 cases of this 100% Cabernet, 100% grown on our Larkmead Estate in northern Napa Valley. Yes, 1998 was a challenge, even difficult, for some vintners. Those who own and farm their own vineyard were at a definite advantage, turning that intimate knowledge to produce, in Larkmead’s case, a very satisfying wine in our big, rich house style. Winemaker Andy Smith writes: “Medium, ruby color, typical Larkmead aromatics of sandalwood, mineral & spice with subtle roasted coffee notes, dried herbs & an intense floral element…with a core of concentrated black cherry fruit.”
